Casting Crowns are an American[1] seven-piece pop/rock band. They have achieved nine number one singles on the Billboard Hot Christian Songs chart.[2]

History[]

The band were formed by lead singer Mark Hall whilst he was working as a youth minister in Florida, USA. The band consisted of Hall, Juan DeVevo, Melodee DeVevo, Robert Huffman, Megan Garrett and Andrew Williams. In 2003, the band were signed to Beach Street Records and released their eponymous debut album, followed by the album Lifesong in 2005,[1] which reached number 9 on the Billboard 200 chart.[3]

The band released their third album, The Altar and the Door, in 2007, an album inspired by Psalm 1.[4] Their fourth album, Until The Whole World Hears, was released in 2011.[5] They released Come To The Well in 2011, an album including collaborations with Steven Curtis Chapman, Matthew West and Tom Douglas.[6]

In 2014, the band released the album Thrive, alongside a book of the same name.[7] The band released The Very Next Thing in 2016,[8] topping the UK's Official Christian & Gospel Albums Chart with the record.[9] The band released Only Jesus in 2018,[10] and Healer in 2022.[11]

In a 2005 interview, when speaking about 'preaching to the choir' in songs, Hall remarked 'how can writing songs that challenge the Church, songs that ask Christians to consider their actions, be a bad thing?'[1]
