Caedmon's Call are an American[1] pop-folk band. They have been active since the late 1990s, releasing 10 albums.
History[]
The name of the band comes from the tale of Saint Caedmon, who was called to sing by God despite having no prior singing experience.[1] The band independently produced music and toured together before the release of their eponymous first album in 1997.[2] Their second album, 40 Acres, was released in 1999.[1]
In 2000, the band released their third album, Long Line of Leavers, and in 2001, the band released In The Company of Angels. In the same year, Derek Webb, principal singer-songwriter for the band, left to pursue a solo career.[3] In 2004, the band released Share The Well,[4] an album which was largely recorded in India with the Dalit people.[3]
In 2006, the band released In The Company of Angels II, an album intended to be largely used for corporate worship.[3] In 2007, the band released Overdressed, the first album Webb contributed to since his departure.[2] They released the album Rising Up The Dead in 2011.[5]
In 2022, the 25th anniversary of their debut album, the band launched a Kickstarter campaign to help release new music.[6]
Faith[]
In a 2007 interview, band member Todd Bragg reflected on how being within the band had affected the faith of the members; 'Seeing our culture, specifically Christian culture in America, from a unique perspective has challenged our faith in ways that would be difficult to see otherwise'.[2]
Founding member Derek Webb no longer considers himself to be a Christian, however notes that he is still open to the belief of some God. He remains connected to a church.[6]
